Lodge Information
Freemasonry is a members’ organisation that has existed for more than 300 years. It has no political or religious affiliations and brings together men of different ages, cultures, religions and backgrounds.
Freemasons meet regularly in local Lodges, where our traditions encourage friendship, integrity, respect and charity. Membership also offers opportunities for personal development, including building confidence, improving public speaking and taking on leadership or organisational roles.
Just as importantly, Freemasonry is about meeting people, enjoying each other’s company and forming friendships that can last a lifetime.
About our Lodge
Andover Combined Services Lodge is one of five Lodges that meet at the Keystone Hall in East Street, Andover. Founded in 1969, the Lodge brings together serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and civilians who are drawn to the values, traditions, fellowship and esprit de corps associated with Service life.
This gives the Lodge a distinctive military character, but it is not overly regimental and previous military service is certainly not a requirement for membership. Men who have not served, but who share our values and feel an affinity with the ethos, camaraderie and sense of belonging associated with the Armed Forces, are equally welcome and play a full part in Lodge life.
Our meetings
We meet formally seven times each year, in March, April, May, September, October, November and December. Meetings normally begin at 6.00 pm and finish at around 10.30 pm. The first part of the evening includes the normal business of the Lodge and a traditional ceremony. These ceremonies are based around learned scripts that explore moral values, personal responsibility and how we conduct ourselves towards others.
The meeting is followed by dinner, where members can relax, socialise and enjoy each other’s company. Dress for our formal meetings is a suit. Members also meet informally at other times throughout the year. Those involved in ceremonies come together to practise and rehearse, while other gatherings provide further opportunities to socialise and get to know one another.
Our social life
Andover Combined Services Lodge has a busy social calendar and recognises the important part played by wives, partners, families and friends. Several events each year are open to guests, including dinner dances, Christmas dinners and our annual Burns Night. Members and their guests can also attend social events organised by other Lodges in Andover and elsewhere.
These occasions are an important part of Lodge life and help members, families and friends build lasting relationships.
Charity and the community
Kindness and charitable giving are central to Freemasonry. Members of Andover Combined Services Lodge support local, national and international causes through fundraising, donations and voluntary work.
Members contribute in different ways, whether by giving their time, sharing their skills and experience or offering financial support. There is no expectation that everyone gives in the same way or to the same extent.
Our aim is to make a positive difference within our local community and beyond.
